Description:
Government Peak is located just north Palmer/Wasilla in what is known as the fishhook community.
Favorable Conditions:
Typically flown Late spring to early summer. Government peak offers some big mountain flying.
Weather Beta: South, Slight SW/SE
Parking: Park at the Government Peak Rec Area Parking lot.
Launch:
Landing Zone: Strongly not advised but multiple community pilots land in the parking lot of the ski chalet. It is very tight and thermic LZ for only the advanced pilots. Further down the road and if conditions allow, you can land in the horse fields or small landing strip. Additionally in early spring you can land closer to the mountain in a large clearing, that one day i hope to get cleaned up as the primary LZ.
Site Cautions: Strong valley winds and over-development.
